A miniature and portrait painter who turned to photography as this genre overtook portraiture. Exh. Walker Art Gallery (WAG)
1880-1881 John Finnie
Landscape painter and etcher who was head of the Mechanics Institute and a leading figure in Liverpool art. Exh. WAG
1882-1883 William Barnes Boadle
A leading portrait painter especially within Liverpool society. Slade School and Liverpool Academy. Exh. WAG
1884/1885/1886 Richard Hartley
A landscape artist of great merit who lived in Liverpool and was a member of several academies. Exh. WAG

Painter of landscapes and the son of an iron foundry owner. Lived in Tal-y-bont. Exh. WAG

Portrait and Landscape artist at the Temple in Dale Street who often worked with his sister Georgina. Exh. WAG
1889 Edward Samuelson
Lord Mayor of Liverpool and Arts Committee of Liverpool. Leading figure in the famous pre-Raphaelite dispute.
1890 Philip Henry Rathbone
Founding member of Liverpool Art Club. Much of the success of the Walker Art Gallery was down to him. Great collector and champion of modern art.

Landscape artist and founding member of Liver Sketching Club (LSC)
1894 Edwin Landseer Grundy
He and his family were very influential in art in Liverpool. Father was art critic in the Liverpool Mercury – donated his large collection and engravings to the Artist Club.
1895 Edward Rimbault Dibdin
Artist, critic and author and Curator of Walker Art Gallery. Whilst he was controversial, he arranged purchase of some of the WAG’s best work.

Dominant figure in Liverpool art and Headmaster at the Mechanic Institute and School of Art. Exhibited extensively, also president of LSC.
1898 Joseph T. Steadman
Author whose studio was in Clayton Square. Painter of coastal scenes and son of a boat builder.
1899 John Lea
Former Lord Mayor of Liverpool and lived at Linwood, Mossley Hill, Liverpool. He was also an art collector.

1900/1901 F.A. Goodwin
Councillor and Chair of the Tobacco Trade Section. Educated at Liverpool College and LSC.
1902 A.F. Mowll
Lived in Hardman Street and was a prominent photographic artist.
1903 Henry Edwin Kidson
Picture dealer and pawn broker. Author of “About Old China,” accomplished chess player and problemist. Exhibited extensively and LSC member.
1904 L.M. Alexander
Died in Office.
1905 Joseph Yelverton Dawbarn
M.A. Studied mathematics at Queens College, Cambridge, and then practiced law before Lancaster Chambers. A student of the Inner Temple at 21 and called to the Bar at 26. President of Liverpool Academy and LSC. Fine painting of Liverpool Town Hall at WAG.
1906 R.P. Crawford
Address 26 North John Street and exhibited once in 1915 at WAG
1907 Lawrence Hobson
ARIBA architect and painter. Exhibited 1896-1928. Painting of Llandridod Wells numbered 483 in 1924 Cambrian Society catalogue, also LSC.
1908 John Woolfall
ARIBA architect, President of the Liverpool Architectural Society renowned for designing banks.
1909 John Victor Rendell Parsons
Important artist and member of the Royal Academy. Studied in Paris and Slade. Exhibited extensively and also President of LSC.
1910 R. Staveley
No information, but possibly the husband of portrait artist Amy D. Staveley who exhibited between 1900-1916.
1911 Frank Copnall
Distinguished Liverpool artist who became president of the Artists Club and LSC. Portraits could be impressionistic and sketching in the manner of Sergeant. Member of National Portrait Society. Also, a large collection in Liverpool College.
1912 Terry Philips
Artist living in Liscard and painter of coastal scenes. President of LSC and exhibited at WAG, 1895-1913
1913/14/15 Robert Edward Morrison
Important Manx artist studied in Paris and resided in Liverpool. Painted many Liverpool Mayors and president of LSC in 1888, and Liverpool Academy. His painting of his wife was the first to be hung on the Club’s wall.
1916 George Seatree JP
Eminent rock climber and president of the Rock Climbing Club of English Lake District, author of several articles and books also father of Evelyn, who was a member of LSC.
1917 H.K. Kerridge
Landscape and coastal scene artist. Member of LSC. Exhibited widely especially WAG, and Royal Academy.
1918 C.K. James
Watercolour artist active between 1911-1927. Born in Allerton and exhibited in WAG.
1919 Godfrey Jones

1920 Arthur Grainger Quigley
Fine watercolour artist. Trained at both Birkenhead and Liverpool schools of Art. Director of WAG also member of LSC.
1921 George Hughes
A watercolourist of mainly figures and domestic scenes. Member of many societies and exhibited widely. Also LSC.
1922 Gilbert Rogers
M.B.E. An artist of great importance and honorary member of the Artist’s Club. Chair of House for more than 20 years. He was one of the most important war artists and was in charge of the medical section of the Imperial War Museum. With his brother, Guy, he formed Guy Rogers Furniture of Liverpool, employing over 400 people. Member of LSC.

Twice Lord Mayor of Liverpool and renowned benefactor. He also presented the Bowring Challenge Cup Golf Trophy which is competed for annually.
